My early experiences using social media tools such as Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter/X started outside of school mostly to connect with friends, family and peers. I have the most experience with instagram and Pinterest and the least amount of experience with twitter. My experiences on these social media platforms has taught me how to interact and use my digital resources. I usually connect with my friends and family members to stay in contact or share fun memories with my followers. I use Pinterest for inspiration for decoration, crafts, clothing and lifestyle. These platforms may be useful in my career to document my progress and search for examples or idea to implement into my classroom.
The digital divide causes unequal access in schools to technology. Even when the digital divide is declined there is still an inequality of skill in students, staff, and faculty. The digital divide is a serious problem because of its ability to hinder learning. Growing up I went to schools that were moderately digitally rich. Every classroom had a set of Chromebooks for students to use and computer labs for teachers to schedule sessions for their classroom. This familiarity with computers and technology allowed me to be adequately prepared for the technology usage in college. The only difference I have had to overcome was the difference in systems of Mac and Microsoft because both applications vary greatly so I could've became more familiar with Mac systems.
Collaborative writing and social annotation encourage collaborative learning and breed creativity, critical thinking, and engagement. It is very important to have an aspect of collaborative writing and social annotation in your classroom. Software tools I would like to include on my future classroom include Microsoft office, Padlet, Diigo, Ruttl, and Word. These applications successfully allow students to partake in collaborative writing and social annotation with peers. These tools allow communication between students and the discourse between peers allows for new ideas and creativity to spark learning. When having opinion bases discussions about a reading done in class, these tools would be very useful. This prepares students for success by getting them used to listening and sharing opinions with others especiially when the opinions differ.
